Walgreens Names Starbucks COO Roz Brewer as CEO

Walgreens Boots Alliance stated on Tuesday it named Roz Brewer, the outgoing chief working officer of Starbucks, as the corporate’s chief govt officer.

Brewer will take workplace from March 15. She succeeds Stefano Pessina, who will transition to the function of govt chairman of the Walgreens board, the pharmacy chain stated in a press release.

Pessina served as CEO of the corporate for six years following the merger of Walgreens and Alliance Boots in December 2014. Walgreens stated in July that Pessina was going to step down.

Pessina will change James Skinner as govt chairman of Walgreens in March. Skinner will stay on the board as a non-executive director to facilitate a management transition, the corporate stated.

Previous to becoming a member of Starbucks, Brewer served as president and CEO of warehouse chain Sam’s Membership, a unit of Walmart Inc, the place she labored from 2012 to 2017.

Shares of Walgreens rose as a lot as 9% in prolonged commerce after markets closed.
